Naza Italia announced the Maserati Gran Turismo, a high performance sports car that is also great for long distance travels. On a sombre note, we got word that iconic tire company Goodyear will be closing down their factory in Shah Alam, which had been in operation since 1972.

The big news this week is Daniel's commentary on the prospects of a Perodua EV, based on Sime Darby's recent acquisition of the company's shares. Our conversation also veered into the EV price wars that have been brewing in our local markets, noting how price-sensitive this segment can be. With more Chinese EV cars entering our markets, perhaps an electric Myvi can soothe the desires of working class Malaysians? Only time will tell.

From their experience, Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) -  a crucial component for all companies who are aiming for sustainable and ethical supply chains - has not been upheld time and again. In the Baram Peace Park, local communities who oppose logging have to fight really hard to protect their territories and rights on a daily basis. While not opposing development, the communities are calling for development that actually protects the forests and their local cultures, instead of destroying them. What has the experience been for these communities, throughout the years? Ahead of International Day of Forests, we speak to Celine Lim, the Managing Director of SAVE Rivers, to discuss how and why local communities in the Upper Baram Forest Area are fighting to protect the forests there.

What’s Politics 12# - Rethinking the Media https://www.bfm.my/podcast/bigger-picture/beyond-the-ballot-box/whats-politics-12-rethinking-the-media https://www.bfm.my/podcast/bigger-picture/beyond-the-ballot-box/whats-politics-12-rethinking-the-media Wed, 13 Mar 2024 14:00:05 +0800 For there to be a proper functioning democracy, we need a proper functioning media system – one that’s focused on the democratisation of ideas and robust debate between various viewpoints. However, the hyper-commercial media landscape today couldn’t be further from that. Fake news, half-truths, narrow perspectives, playing to the gallery and rage-baiting culture wars have greatly contributed to the polarisation we see across the world.

Peter Beattie, who’s a regular guest on this show, wrote a book titled Social Evolution, Political Psychology, and the Media in Democracy which focuses on problems with the media landscape today and what needs to be done to make it better. We unpack his book in this episode.

Initially aimed at the top 100 PLCs, this policy was later extended to encompass a broader spectrum of companies, to create a more balanced and dynamic leadership landscape.

As women ascend to leadership roles, their voices become influential drivers of change. The push for increased female representation in leadership roles is not merely a response to social pressures but reflective of a progressive step towards fostering innovation, decision-making quality and overall corporate performance.

Delving into the multifaceted impact of female representation in leadership roles and exploring the tangible benefits and potential drawbacks of a set target is Christine Sterk, Chief Business Officer, at Pulsifi.
