Monday marked the 300th day of the anti-Baram dam blockade. It coincided with the publication of a report by Save Sarawak’s Rivers Network on the controversial proposed dam: “No Consent to Proceed: Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Violations at the Proposed Baram Dam in Sarawak”. The fact-finding report was presented to National Human Rights Commission. While the Sarawak state government blames opposition political parties and NGOs for inciting fear and anger among the Kayan, Kenyah and Penan communities affected by the dam, others say that these communities are capable of evaluating for themselves the detrimental affects that previous resettled communities have suffered as the result of big dams projects in the state.
