Death Penalty in Malaysia

Malaysia introduced the death penalty for drug trafficking in 1983 as a reaction to a growing drug trade in the region. By mid-1996, we had hanged about 35 people in 10 years. Malaysia has rejected recommendations to reform the death penalty put forward during the Universal Periodic Review, and we find out more about Amnesty International's findings in the 2013 annual report.
