MH370 Tragedy: Has It Damaged Our Image?

Malaysia has been scrutinised from every angle imaginable since the disappearance of MH370, resulting in its image taking a massive beating. The criticism escalated over the weeks and the bulk of it came from China, where most of the passengers of the ill-fated flight were from. Their relatives and friends have been vocal about their pain, and their disappointment in Malaysia’s handling of the situation.

Joining the fray are international media representatives, who have camped out here since the plane went missing and were brutally honest in their news coverage. Reports range from how inept the Malaysian authorities have been in organising search operations, to the ability of those in authority to speak decent English and the vague statements given during press conferences. Almost overnight, Malaysia went from being a diverse and thriving Asian gem to a questionable mess in the face of crisis.

Many have questioned what this will do for Visit Malaysia 2014, now suspended until further notice, and also the image of Malaysia's national carrier, Malaysia Airlines. Today on Talkback Thursday, we're asked: One month since the disappearance of flight MH370, what type of impact do you think it's had on Malaysia's image? Is it irreparable?
