Talkback Tuesday: How Soon Is Too Soon To Start Laughing?

It’s been a gloomy March for Malaysians. We’ve been through an array of emotions since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. The tragedy struck so close to home making it the only thing occupying everyone’s minds and the only topic of conversation.

While both our government and other countries scrambled together to seek answers behind the tragedy, the events that unfolded before the glaring public eye was fodder for the press - China blaming Malaysia for hiding details, questionable statements from Malaysian leaders and so on. And while some of us were piously following the developments, some of us were prepared to move on.

Cartoonists, satirists and netizens started making jokes about MH370 when investigation developments were shared. Some laughed, some thought it was an insensitive thing to do and some had no reaction at all. But should we be joking in the face of such tragedy? Our lines were open.
