Not Just For Kicks

Football is a universal language. At least, that’s the underlying idea behind Rohingya FC, a small football club with big aspirations, comprised of Rohingyan refugees living in Kuala Lumpur. Formed in 2014, the club consider themselves the Rohingyan national team and hope to someday play in the World Cup. With support from Australian NGO The Kick Project, RFC aims to give these young men a productive, purposeful way to spend their free time, and to help them better integrate with the local community. Muhammad Noor, the club’s chairman, sheds some light on the problems this marginalised group faces, and how sport can help to overcome many of them.
