Globalization and advances in technology allow criminals to commit crimes across international borders with greater ease than ever before. To address the issue, innovation in forensics is key. In Malaysia, escalating crime rates as well as recent incidents such as the MH tragedies necessitates better innovation in forensics.

DNA profiling is a key technique used not only in law enforcement, but also in war crimes and disaster investigations as well as immigration.

However the value of DNA profiling depends on the speed at which it can produce results. It also depends on the ease at which it can be deployed, for example the ability to conduct test on-site instead of sending samples to a lab. Innovation in DNA profiling helps addresses issues such as backlog of forensic tests by organisations such the Royal Malaysia Police and the Department of Chimistry, saves money and improves overall efficiencies, reduces repeat crimes, and ultimately helps solve more crimes, thus keeping society safe. Innovation such as GE’s DNAscan Rapid DNA Analysis System allows for fast, simple and convenient on-the-field analysis of specimen.

This documentary is brought to you in collaboration with GE Malaysia.
