Could the COVID-19 Pandemic Fuel Antimicrobial Resistance?

Earlier this year, the World Health Organisation listed “preparing for epidemics” and “preventing antibiotic resistance” among their most urgent global health challenges for 2020. Fast forward to November, countries across the world are focussed on battling COVID-19, but how has this impacted antimicrobial resistance? In conjunction with World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2020 (18th to 24th November), we speak to Dr Benedict Sim, consultant infectious diseases physician from Hospital Sungai Buloh to find out whether COVID-19 is impacting the progress against antimicrobial resistance.
