The elderly in care homes in Malaysia are often spoken to in infantilised language, which Dr. David Yoong calls 'elderspeak.'

Based on his research embedded in a KL day care facility, he will discuss his conclusions about why care givers use this language, why it is detrimental to the health and well-being of our elderly and what family and health professionals can do to use language that stimulates and respects this population.
