According to a New York Times article titled “Second-Chance Med School,” American medical schools have long vilified their Caribbean counterparts for providing substandard education for students who were weak to begin with. Here to respond to this characterization are two individuals from the oldest medical school in the Caribbean - St. George’s University. Located on the island of Grenada in the West Indies, it has produced more than 15,000 doctors and veterinarians from around the world since its inception in 1976, including Malaysia. Margaret Lambert is the Dean of Enrolment Planning and University Registrar, and with her is Dr. Calum Macpherson, Vice Provost of International Programme Development. Dr. Macpherson is also Professor of Veterinary Parasitology and Dean of St. George’s University’s Graduate Studies Programme.
