There’s no doubt, data is the oil powering our future lives and economies. As it drives our cars and planes, stock market and online shopping, the importance of data gave birth to a new Data Economy that centres around the extracting, refining, valuing, purchasing and selling of data. However, the Data Economy is opaque and lacks transparency. Few people understand the myriad of middlemen and data aggregators who sell data to companies. This happens for a number of reasons and the result is companies and governments spending millions of dollars making decisions based on data that could well be inaccurate.
