In 1998, Global Witness published the report “A Rough Trade” which shed light on the dark side of the diamond trade. This was one of the initial exposes that brought global attention to how a significant portion of the diamond industry was being used to finance the Angolan conflict. Since then, the international community has come together to work on efforts to clean up the diamond trade. But has the situation really been resolved, and what does it look like today in the diamond industry?
