There have been increasing calls to waive patent protections on pharmaceuticals amid the Covid-19 pandemic, including Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin promoting the production of cheaper generic versions of medication for critical diseases. We look at the challenges that come with waiving medication patent and how this move might impact health equity.
