This week Umapagan Ampikaipakan and a bunch of his BFM colleagues venture out to a beach in Langkawi and speak to a Frenchman. His name is Jerome Bouchaud, and his brand new book ‘Langkawi Style’ - with photographs by Howard Tan - is a remarkable look at that island up north, which we have, for far too long, simply relegated as yet another beach holiday destination.
‘Langkawi Style’ is not a book about history and culture, nor is it a book about architecture and design. It is not a travel guidebook. It is an exploration into all of those things that make a place what it is: the people, the culture, the environment, the history and heritage. It is a second look. It is a tribute.
