Thamboosamy Pillai, a Malaysian of Tamil origin, who was prominent in helping the Indian community during our pre-independence years. A wealthy businessman and philanthropist, he is remembered today for founding the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in KL as well as establishing the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Hindu Temple in Batu Caves, among others. His great-granddaughter, Santa Kumarie, joins us on this FT Day special.
