Starting off as a green technology R&D company in 2008, Eclimo Sdn Bhd is the only company in Malaysia that makes electric motorbikes today.
During an interview with the Breakfast Grille’s crew, Datuk Dennis Chuah, CEO of Eclimo Sdn Bhd shares the reasons behind his venture into such a business and why he thinks there is demand for his bikes.
Here are 5 things you should know about Eclimo’s electric motorbike:
1. The motorbike hails from Penang!
Eclimo is designing and assembling the motorbikes in Bayan Lepas and has leased 300 units to KFC, PDRM and certain government agencies.

2. You can rent it for RM50/day
Visitors to Penang may also see the same motorbikes cruising by as they are available for rent at RM50 per day on the island.
3. Plug, charge and ride!
The bikes do not require special charging equipment and can be hooked up to any AC wall outlet.
“It takes four hours to fully charge the bikes and costs just RM1 for a full charge. A fully charge motorbikes can reach a maximum speed around 100kph,” said Datuk Dennis Chuah.
4. It has ASEAN presence!
The motorbikes also been used as the electric ‘Tuk Tuk’ or ‘e-TUG-Moto’ to ferry tourists around the Angkor Watt area.
Eclimo’s venture into the Cambodian market was assisted by Matrade through its Market Linkage Progamme which saw the introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT) features which had garnered the interest of Cambodian commercial partners and the debut of the brand there.
5. No, you can’t simply buy the motorbike from any bikes shop!
The motorbike is not available for normal consumer because of the production cost is still high and the battery cost alone is about 50% of overall cost. It could retail for RM18,000 if sold to the public.
