Universiti Malaya is expected to merge its 12 faculties, two academies and three centres into six faculties in order to cut operating expenditure effective September this year. One of the department affected by this restructuring is the Department of Chinese Studies, the first of its kind in Malaysia, which will lose its departmental status.
