You may brush off having thrush or ringworm as just a simple fungal infection. However, fungal infections are on the rise as a serious public health concern, and we aren’t paying enough attention to treating them. This year, the World Health Organization published its first-ever report addressing the critical lack of medicines and diagnostic tools for invasive fungal diseases. On the Public Health show, we speak to Clinical Microbiologist Dr Rukumani Devi Velayuthan, to understand the serious impact of emerging and invasive fungal diseases, and why global research needs to pay attention to these microbes.
