Human rights experts from the United Nations have raised concerns over fraudulent recruitment practices and systematic exploitation of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia. • Thousands unregistered for Selangor death benefit scheme: The Khairat Dahrul Ehsan, or KDE scheme offers cash assistance to help next-of-kin upon the passing of a family member. However, many were deterred as they had to re-register under a brand new system. We speak to Anfaal Saari, Selangor state women empowerment and welfare committee chairman on the challenges the state government has faced in getting applicants to register.
• Woman being investigated for making false sexual assault claim: According to the police, the 25-year-old allegedly made the story up against her e-hailing driver after she had been scolded by her family for coming home late. We break down how false claims have a harmful ripple effect on other victims, especially in a landscape that makes it difficult for women to report incidents in the first place.
• Road closures due to flash floods: This follows the spate of bad weather we've been experiencing since last weekend. Yesterday, the Shah Alam city council announced several road closures which resulted in severe congestion. Hafiz Amirrol, Deputy Executive Director of MERCY Malaysia joins us to break down the impact of this bad weather and evaluate whether local councils are sufficiently prepared for emergencies.
• SPM carries on despite setbacks: The Education Ministry has decided to stick to its originally planned schedule even with poor weather expected to continue until early December and rumours that this year's papers were being sold online. We discuss if this decision is fair for all students, what it takes to postpone the exams and broader support being given to students.
