World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO's General Conference. Since then, 3 May, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day.
What we here on the Evening Edition decided to do was to see what people’s reaction to press freedom is like around the region. We contacted an Indonesian analyst, and managed to talk to people from both Singapore and Malaysia about what their thoughts on press freedom were, how it affects them, and what changes they think need to be made towards a more free press.
