Malaysia has ranked 73 on Reporters Without Borders 2023 World Press Freedom Rankings, a jump of 40 placings from 113 last year. This is the highest rank ever attained by Malaysia, placing the country in the same company as Hungary and Sierra Leone. We discuss the significance of this and what a free press means for Malaysian society
