The People Profession On A Post-Pandemic Planet: Trends, Challenges, And 2024 Outlook

In the past few years, HR or People professionals in Malaysia faced unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic. The most notable trends in HR during 2021 were related to the pandemic and its effects on the workforce and economy. These include a shift towards remote and hybrid work models, adoption of digitisation initiatives, more priority on employee skill development, and a data-centric approach to HR.

HR professionals themselves are focusing on developing new skills and strategies to effectively manage these changes, enhancing their role in fostering organisational resilience and employee well-being. They are also navigating the complexities of workforce management in a more dynamic and evolving business environment.

In this edition of Resource Centre, we delve into the findings of the ‘People Profession Report APAC 2023’ by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). A comprehensive analysis that sheds light on the dynamics of the workplace and HR professionals across the Asia-Pacific region. This report highlights how the evolving business landscape, influenced by digital transformation, and the shift towards hybrid working models, is reshaping the role of HR professionals.

We speak with May Leng Kwok, Head of Market Development – Global, at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), on the challenges, transformations, and future prospects in the human resources landscape, and how these trends are shaping organisations and the workforce in this rapidly changing part of the world.
