Talkback Thursday: Forgive & Forget?

There’s been a barrage of unpleasant incidents that have graced our news stories just these 3 weeks alone. We’ve had politician Bung  Mokhtar’s Hitler remark after Brazil lost embarrassingly to Germany in the World Cup. Datin Seri Wan Azizah has been labeled as unfit to be a Menteri Besar because of her menstrual cycle, according to another politician. These seemingly unforgivable remarks are reminiscent of 2012’s listen-listen-listen debacle where undergraduate KS Bawani was publicly berated by the moderator.

Entering the fray now is the infamous viral video showing a woman and her over-the-top display of road rage on an elderly man in a fender bender episode a couple of days ago. The magnitude of how it exploded on our social media scene is nothing short of spectacular, with netizens calling for action to be taken, on top of the outpouring of negativity.

Some are calling for calm over the incident and to move on. But most of society are demanding that there should be consequences. Is this symbolic of what we’ve become as a society?

Are we a vengeful society or a forgiving one? Should we forgive and forget and just move on?
