James Ly, Artist/Painter

James Ly

A long time ago, James Ly envisioned himself as a footballer, but that dream died and so he ventured into something he knows he can put his entire heart and soul into; art. After graduating with a BA in Multimedia Design and a MSC in 3D Animation.

He is first and foremost an artist by trade, a curator by day (and night) and a co-founder of the Minut Init Art Social art space in Damansara Uptown. This particular art space is a vessel used to cultivate and discover new and underground artists in hopes of putting their personal work out there for the public. James strongly believes in bringing up new talent and being a teacher and educator himself.

He was born and bred in Kuala Lumpur, or OUG to be more exact. And, as a KL-ite he understands the local potential around him and so his art space is the medium. Other than that, he produces his own work as well and he enjoys playing with spatial, structural and formal forms of the art. Lately, he’s been experimenting with industrial art by using drip sticks, hardware materials and everyday tools we usually take for granted.

He’s been a curator for many different types of exhibitions such as Tinpix Mophog, Tahi Cicak, Heineken, Midas Touch Art Fusion, Inner Visions, Adolences, Duality, Alice In Wonderland and etc. His soon-to-be latest exhibition will be his own entitled, ‘Inured’, which explores the rapid changes in technology, the environment and the human way of thinking.
