Melizarani T. Selva, Spoken Poet

22-Oct-15 20:00

Melizarani T. Selva

Tonight we had our first ever spoken poet on our show! Her name is Melizarani T. Selva, she’s a 25 year old who does poetry as her forefront, being an educator pushing for a more voiceful public and also being a journalist during the day.

Melizarani’s poetry has brought her to many places from New Delhi, Jakarta, Melbourne, Mumbai and almost every Malaysian state with her words. Her work has been published in The Asian Centre Anthology of Malaysian Poetry in English, her poems have also been translated in Bahasa Malaysia and published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.

Meliza also runs her own bookstore in USJ11, Subang. Her store focuses on new age writings and topics which she also contributes herself. Speaking of books, Melizarani had the opportunity to launch her own book. Titled Taboo, it was first published by Perfect Binding Press earlier in June.

Her book tour encompassed a slew of Malaysian states and went out all the way to Mumbai. She also run Kuala Lumpur's only bimonthly spoken word poetry open mic, ’If Walls Could Talk’ held at Gaslight Cafe in Bukit Damansara.

For the record, Melizarani scored _!
