The country is in the international limelight again but this time for what the international media is calling the Asian Migrant Crisis. The initial impression was that boat loads of people were given fresh supplies at best but refused the right to land, effectively pushing them out to sea to an uncertain fate. Malaysia is not signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention but does this absolve us of responsibility? We try to get an answer to Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Jafaar’s question “What do you expect us to do?”
