A few heads of state have publicly declared they will not be attending the opening ceremony of the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia on February 6th, as a response to Moscow’s treatment of its LGBT communities. But will this symbolic gesture bring any changes to the Putin’s administration behavior? We ask foreign policy expert Elina Noor about this and examine the history of boycotts at major sporting events.
