Malaysia has taken important steps to protect the rights of people with disabilities by ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in 2010 and adopting the Persons with Disabilities Act 2008, which provides social protection services in areas such as health, rehabilitation and education for children with disabilities. But social stigma is still very much attached to persons with disability especially when it comes to being given equal opportunities in education and employment. We spoke to the people championing this cause to find out what the issues were.
