Reuben Kang

Tonight we had the main man behind the camera for all of JinnyboyTV’s Youtube films, he’s the pint-sized half of the ever popular online channel; it’s the one and only, Reuben Kang! We sat down with the Youtube directing maestro and quizzed him with a round of questions. (Lucky for him, no electric chairs included this time)

Reuben’s life of film started off as being a Production Assistant for local production companies at the youthful age of 16. He continued to nurture his passion well into his tertiary education by graduating from Lim Kok Wing with a degree in broadcasting and with two honours. His highlight was winning awards at Astro’s NextGen Contentpreneur 2008 for his film Lock. It won Best Short Film and was nominated for Best Art Direction.

Reuben joined J. Walter Thompson, a top international advertising agency, during his time in JWT, Reuben was decorated with wins from the prestigious Kancil Awards in 2011 & 2012 for his work for Dutch Lady and Ford. His portfolio is a huge range from theatre productions, music videos, television commercials, documentaries and even 3D animation series.

Reuben’s partnership with Jin Lim all started in 2011 when Jin called Reuben for a video interview with Youtube musicians, Jayesslee. Soon after the interview, the idea for Ah Wing: Malaysia’s Number One Salesman popped up, the video quickly went viral and it all snowballed from there for JinnyboyTV. The partnership won the Digi WWWOW Awards’ Funniest Video of the Year for My Generasi in 2012, and has been nominated twice for the Shout Awards.

Apart from Youtube, Reuben is part of a football TV show on Astro called Football Overload. Reuben is also the co-founder for Morningwood, a cafe situated in SS15, Subang Jaya. It was formed alongside fellow Youtuber Jared Lim and Youtube actress Marianne Tan.

For the record, Reuben scored 22!
